Combination Pill - keeps a check on fertility!
This medication is a hormonal contraceptive which contains synthetic versions of two hormones – estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen works primarily by suppressing ovulation. Progesterone brings about thickening of cervical mucus and endometrium. As a result, conception is precluded by preventing ovulation, fertilization and implantation of the egg. Pregnant women can also take this medicine 6 weeks after the pregnancy.

Combination Pill – Dosage
A pack contains 28 pills among which 21 pills contain active hormones while 7 pills are hormonally inactive. These pills give a hormonal break to your body and initiate menstruation. If the pill is started on the first day of menstruation, there is no need for any backup contraception. However, if it is taken later, backup contraception is needed for first 7 days. This pill may reduce the amount of milk. Hence breastfeeding women should use it with caution only if nursing is going well.
